STELCO Introduces ‘Vashani’ Digital Portal to Transform Electricity Service Access

State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has unveiled a new digital customer service platform, “Vashani,” as part of its ongoing efforts to modernize electricity service delivery and improve accessibility for customers across the Maldives.

The portal was officially launched by Dr. Ali Azwar, Deputy Managing Director of STELCO, who currently oversees the company’s operational portfolio.

The Vashani platform has been developed as a centralized online gateway through which customers can access a wide range of electricity-related services. Registration and authentication are conducted securely through the national digital identity system, eFaas, providing users with a safe and streamlined process to access the portal.

A key feature of the platform is a specialized interface designed for electrical engineers licensed by the Utility Regulatory Authority. Through this system, licensed professionals are able to submit and approve service applications electronically, helping to simplify technical procedures while ensuring regulatory compliance.

The Vashani portal enables customers to manage their electricity services remotely, including submitting applications, making payments, and monitoring the status of requests in real time. Users are also able to review past service records and receive timely updates through SMS notifications. By shifting these processes to a digital environment, the system is expected to reduce paperwork, shorten processing times, and enhance transparency in service delivery.

Addressing the launch ceremony, Dr. Azwar described the platform as an important milestone in STELCO’s commitment to strengthening service efficiency through digital innovation. He noted that the initiative also supports the country’s broader digital transformation agenda under the Maldives 2.0 development framework.

“This platform represents a fully integrated service environment. With this launch, many of our operational processes have transitioned into a paperless, online system—an achievement that marks a significant moment in the company’s journey toward modernization,” Dr. Azwar stated.

The introduction of Vashani is expected to enhance convenience for customers by enabling faster and more efficient access to electricity services while supporting STELCO’s continuous 24-hour operational commitment. The initiative further contributes to raising digital service standards within the electricity sector, ensuring that essential utilities remain reliable, accessible, and responsive to the needs of communities and businesses throughout the Maldives.
