At STELCO, we are proud to be leading the charge towards a cleaner, greener and more sustainable energy future for the Maldives. STELCO has been dedicated to integrating renewable energy into our power infrastructure ever since the installation of our first solar PV system in 2009. We have successfully implemented hybrid solar and battery systems in key locations such as K.Gulhifalhu, Adh.Dhidhoo, and V.Rakeedhoo, and installed floating PV systems in V.Keyodhoo and Adh.Kunburudhoo. These projects are paving the way for a more resilient energy landscape for the Maldives.

We are also actively researching alternative renewable energy sources, such as wind and ocean energy, to further diversify our clean energy solutions. We are committed to expanding the use of renewables in all our powerhouse operations. Types of Renewable Energy

Unlocking the Potential of Renewable Energy Sources

Solar Energy

Our solar initiatives capitalize on the abundant sunlight that our islands receive daily. From aesthetic rooftop installations to ground-mounted systems, we are committed to lighting up the Maldives with clean, reliable energy.

Wind Energy

The Maldivian islands have limited wind, but rooftop micro-wind turbines are promising for island use. These micro-wind turbines are designed for low wind speeds (2 to 6 m/s) which is ideal for localized energy generation.

Ocean Energy

With 99% of the Maldives being water, wave energy, ocean thermal energy, and marine currents are promising renewable resources. Ocean energy offers stable electricity generation all year-round, especially during the monsoon season, presenting a valuable addition to the energy mix of the country.
