President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu Inaugurates New STELCO Powerhouse in K. Dhiffushi

A significant enhancement to energy infrastructure in K. Dhiffushi was marked with the official inauguration of the island’s new powerhouse by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. The ceremony took place during the President’s tour of Kaafu Atoll and was attended by STELCO Managing Director Mr. Ahmed Shamah Rasheed and senior officials.

Construction of the facility commenced on 26 June 2024 and was completed ahead of schedule, underscoring STELCO’s commitment to timely project delivery and the advancement of national utility infrastructure.

The new powerhouse increases Dhiffushi’s electricity capacity from 2.2 megawatts to an installable capacity of 7 megawatts, providing a more resilient and future-ready power supply to support the island’s growing residential population, tourism sector, and local businesses.

The upgraded complex includes a modern engine room, control room, office space, accommodation for technical staff, and a dedicated customer service building. A secure boundary enclosure has also been installed to ensure safe and efficient operations.

This development represents a major step forward in strengthening Dhiffushi’s utility services and is expected to support continued social and economic growth on the island. STELCO remains committed to delivering reliable, high-quality electricity services across the Maldives through modern and sustainable infrastructure investments.
