STELCO initiates project to build new Powerhouse in K. Thulusdhoo
A major step toward strengthening energy infrastructure in K. Thulusdhoo was marked with the laying of the foundation for the island’s new powerhouse, a project undertaken by State Electric Company Limited (STELCO).
The ceremony was officiated by the Minister of Tourism and Environment, Mr. Thoriq Ibrahim, and attended by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, along with senior government and STELCO officials.
The project is designed to meet the increasing electricity demands of Thulusdhoo, driven by population growth and expanding tourism activity within Kaafu Atoll. Key components of the development include the construction of a modern powerhouse facility, a dedicated customer service building, and a boundary wall.
Construction works are being carried out by Sunwill Pvt Ltd, with the project commencing on 06 October 2025 and scheduled for completion on 30 March 2026. The total project value is MVR 11,954,501.00.
Once operational, the new powerhouse will enhance electrical capacity, improve service reliability, and support the island’s continued social and economic development. The initiative reflects STELCO’s commitment to delivering robust, future-ready infrastructure across the Maldives.
