STELCO Strengthens Workforce Development Through Technical Training
State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has further strengthened its commitment to workforce development with the enrolment of 76 employees in technical and vocational training programmes conducted in partnership with Maldives Polytechnic.
The employees, representing different departments and regional powerhouses across STELCO’s operations, have commenced four Level 3 programmes under the August 2026 intake of Maldives Polytechnic.
The programmes provide employees with opportunities to enhance their technical knowledge, practical skills and professional capabilities through recognised Certificate Level qualifications relevant to their areas of work. The initiative forms part of STELCO’s continued efforts to develop a highly skilled workforce capable of supporting the Company’s expanding operations and evolving technical requirements.
The official launch of the programmes was attended by STELCO Managing Director Dr. Ali Azwar, who highlighted the importance of continuous investment in employee development as the Company works towards building a workforce with the skills and expertise required to support the country’s growing energy infrastructure.
Dr. Azwar encouraged the participating employees to make full use of the training opportunity by actively engaging in lessons and practical exercises, asking questions and sharing knowledge and experiences with their colleagues.
He also emphasised that the value of the programmes extends beyond obtaining formal qualifications, with the knowledge and skills gained expected to translate into improved performance in the workplace and greater knowledge-sharing across the organisation.
“The progress made by our employees translates directly into the growth of this company. The company’s growth, in turn, benefits the general public who rely on our services. Ultimately, this progress belongs to the entire nation,” Dr. Azwar said.
STELCO’s investment in workforce development comes as the Company continues to expand and modernise its electricity generation and distribution infrastructure. As electricity demand increases and energy infrastructure becomes increasingly sophisticated, maintaining a technically capable workforce remains essential to ensuring the continued delivery of safe, reliable and efficient services.
