Dr. Ali Azwar appointed as Managing Director of STELCO
The Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) has appointed Dr. Ali Azwar as the Managing Director of State Electric Company Limited (STELCO), effective 28 April 2026.
Dr. Azwar, who joined STELCO in 1997, previously served as the Deputy Managing Director and continues to serve as an Executive Director of the Board. With nearly three decades of service at STELCO, his appointment reflects a distinguished career marked by extensive leadership experience and deep institutional knowledge.
He holds a Doctorate in Public Policy, specializing in Renewable Energy Policy, from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. He also earned a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from the National University of Singapore and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Studies from the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom.
Throughout his tenure at STELCO, Dr. Azwar has held several key executive positions, including Chief Operating Officer, Head of the Customer Services Department, and Head of the Business Development Department. He has also contributed significantly through his roles in the Projects Department and Regional Department, supporting the expansion and enhancement of STELCO’s services across the Maldives.
Dr. Azwar’s appointment comes at a pivotal time as STELCO continues to expand its service footprint, strengthen its operations and advance its strategic focus on sustainability, innovation, and service excellence.
